Orientation:
Please take a moment while your animated instructor orients you to today’s class. Then, head to the Ship’s Library, where we will hold this session. Remember, all the rooms on the ship will transform according to our needs, so the space remains interesting to explore.
Take a moment to listen to Bridgid. She rarely visits, but she is still on the Ship to help orient you.
We are happy to have her here! Then read through the notes, download the Scent Impressions Sheet and buy some thick artist’s paper to make Scent Strips.

The Scent Impressions Sheet
Please take a look at the essential oil and scent impressions sheet below. You will be asked to fill out one sheet for each essential oil you sample in this course. We understand this is only possible when you have that oil to smell. Use your senses and your imagination. The first example includes words from the olfactory vocabulary to get you thinking this way.
Your journal will contain a blank template for making copies of the various oils. Use your imagination and memories to provide your impressions. Be as concrete as possible with your words to trigger your future memories.
To gain an olfactory experience with this oil, just sniff it and then fill out the impression sheet from your accompanying journal ( included as a download pdf below). Make an adequate amount of copies of the Scent Impressions Sheet Template. Update your impressions about each essential oil periodically to determine if your impression of the oil modifies with time and experience.
Scent Strips:
An excellent way to get a thorough sniff of the oils is from scent strips. Could you drop the oil onto a strip of absorbent paper? Porous drawing paper, cut into thin strips, works best. Print the name of the oil on one end of the strip. Then, dip the other end into your essential oil or place a drop of oil onto the strip. Sniff the strip to get your immediate impression. Then, let the essential oil set and sniff it again later to see if the dried oil smells different to you. Could you write down your responses?
