The Myth of a Genie, a Black Wizard and a Girl Named Trua

Once Upon A Time

A young Genie, named Gini becomes a prisoner when an unsavoury, black magician named Lasko uses his dark magic to find her lantern. In his possession Gini must grant his wishes. Lasko calls on dark forces to keep her for longer than he should, squeezing more than three, self-serving wishes from her. Gini is miserable in his company and longs for autonomy.

An innocent young girl named Trua is also captured by the Dark Magician, who has tricked her father into allowing her to become his bride.  Gini and the young woman, both captives, forge a relationship, initially based on hatred for the black magician.

While they are imprisoned the young women teach each other profound lessons.

Trua, our captive human, says, “Gini, being in this cage, is difficult. I hope you are alright. It is so unfair that Lasko has kept you past three wishes. I too am miserable.  I need to talk and hope you do not mind me rattling on. I just can’t marry the dark wizard.”

“Gini,” Trua continues, “I am so in love with a young man named Candue.  It is my bond with him that keeps me hopeful. I know he will try to help me. Every breath I take is a tribute to my love for him. I wish I had magic like you, Gini and strength. I wish I had a way for us to get out of here.”

Gini sheds a tear of compassion for her new human friend and tells Trua, “humans are capable of their own magic.”

Trua responds, “I don’t know what you mean, Gini. I have no magic, but love. Could you teach me Gini? I hate feeling so helpless and would be very grateful to you if you could advise me.”

“Trua,” says Gini, “Be assured, humans do have magic, but it is different than Genie magic. Humans cannot grant wishes, but they have the power of choice. They can also learn and be flexible. I will tell you what I know, Trua.”

“Let’s pretend we are in school, Trua and escape this misery,” says Gini. “Right now, I will give you your first lesson. To work with wishes, you must be crystal clear about who you are. You need self-knowledge. Without understanding yourself, magic does more harm than good.”

Gini continues, “Learning about wishes is a life-long study.  But, since I don’t know how much longer we have together and because you are in desperate need, I will do what I can, now.”

“Secondly, Trua,” Gini relays, “You need self-understanding. Self-awareness will help you see how root issues like neglect from your background drive you. Unresolved background issues sabotage humans. The Black Wizard was neglected and abused in his childhood. He continues to do the same to others because he has not cured himself of the hurt from his past.”

“Before you make wishes, Trua,” says Gini, “you also need to think of outcomes wishes may have. You also need to understand, the power of your inner authority. Only you are the true boss of you! That Trua, is the gift of free will humans are granted, something Genies do not have.”

“Yes, because I am a Genie, I have magical tools,” continues Gini, “but you can learn much of what I know, Trua. Also, don’t idolize me, because like you, I have problems, due to who I am. Because I am a Genie I can never free myself without help, but I can help you.”

“But getting back to wish-making. Another tip for you, Trua is that when you make a wish know that is just the beginning. You need to protect and nurture that wish. Flower essences, which carry the intention of a plant and afformations, also called power words both amplify your intentions,” says Gini.

Just then a little hummingbird perched on Gini’s cage. It looked at her adoringly, and Gini smiled. The little bird brought sudden joy to the dismal surroundings.

“Hi Joey,” Gini giggled, “it is so nice to see you.”

“Oh, oh,” exclaimed Gini, as three lemon pies appeared in the room.

“What was that,” asked Trua with delight?

“I love Joey, the hummingbird, but whenever the two of us connect we get a spontaneous wish. We can’t control it. I guess I had lemon pie on my mind,” Gini laughed. “I know it’s not the most practical gift at the moment.” A lemon meringue pie flew into each of the young women’s cage, while Joey nibbled on his own.

Joey pecked Gini a kiss and flew off again.

“I love lemon pie, but having our cages opened might have been smarter,” laments Trua.

Gini nods in agreement. She knows she needs to channel her spontaneous wishes more clearly when Joey comes around and, she vows to herself to work on that skill.

“I know it is a lot to absorb Trua, but this may be the only time I have to share what I know is helpful,” Gini said, getting back on track with genie lessons for Trua.

“Try to stay with me. If you dialogue with yourself, when you have incongruent beliefs that cause you pain, you will gain clarity. Making decisions and then following up with relevant actions will give your wishes a strong chance of surviving. It is also important to know, Trua that the ability for humans to self-reflect and learn from their past actions is crucial. It is how they develop wisdom. Without this, they will only repeat poor choices and behaviours again and again” says Gini.

Trua, feeling overwhelmed with all of this information, says, “I am so is mesmerized by your knowledge Gini and I realize that even though I’m human, what you are telling me can make my life so much better. You are giving me a reason to hope, even though I am in this horrible situation. But it is a lot to remember, and you use words that are new to me.”

Trua continues, “Genies are very special, as you change the course of people’s lives. You have done that just by talking to me and sharing these amazing skills. Your teachings transform what I think I am capable of, that in itself is big magic. Gini, I know my circumstances are bad. I am doomed to serve Lasko, just like you are. But you give me such hope. If we ever get out of here, I want to share what you are teaching me with people everywhere, especially women. If they knew about these tools of clarity, self-talk, inner authority, power words, flower essences and action steps, they too could create much better lives.” If I am granted freedom, I will make a difference, Gini!”

Gini responds, “Trua I am so touched by what you have said. I didn’t realize humans want to learn these things, but as we are both trapped, I want to pass on what I can. Trua, you are teaching me too. I am learning about how to feel. I savour this precious connection we have,” says Gini affectionately.

Just then the women hear horse’s hooves and lots of rattles. Trua thinks she faintly hears her lover Candue’s voice.

Candue has been in love with Trua since childhood. His heart broke when he showed up for his daily walk with her, among the rosebushes in their shared woods. Trua’s father saw Candue and said “I’m sorry Candue, the Black Wizard, Lasko has taken Trua. I need food for the other children and drink. She was the light of my life, but I am a desperate man, and I saw no other way, but to let her go.” Her father hangs his head in shame and unhappiness and walks away.

Candue thunders away from the cottage in search of Trua. He is not prepared and not a warrior. But Trua is his love. Everyone in town knows where Lasko lives, a vast, castle that is hard to find.

Candue knows the guard at Lasko’s door and says to the guard, “I am delivering some party supplies to Lasko, as I know there is a marriage ahead.” The guard reluctantly nods him into the castle.

Candue finds out where Trua is and in a brief encounter with his amour, he says, “I love you more than life itself Trua. How are you faring in this intolerable situation?”

Trua, responds, “This is not my will, Candue. It is you I love, but if you attempt a rescue, please keep safe. Right now, Candue, I would like you to meet Gini. She is my teacher and friend, and I admire and care about her. If you rescue me, you must save her as well.”

“I am heartened by your words, Trua. I will attack the Black Wizard tonight. I will free us all or become a captive with you. I would rather that than spend my life without you in it,” says Candue with tears in his eyes.

Candue quietly tiptoes into Lasko’s sitting room later that night. He draws his sword and pins Lasko to the wall by his shirt, grazing his skin. Lasko is initially taken by surprise.

Lasko moves his hands and casts a spell, which knocks Candue onto the floor. “You, silly boy, do you really think you can overpower me? Also, think of the girl, what kind of life will she have with you? You haven’t got the money or power I do. She will have to work, as you are no provider. If she lives with me, she will have everything. You will die for her sake. You will be executed before our wedding,” laughs Lasko.

Candue is hauled away by monkey guards and locked in the dungeon, feeling downcast and helpless.

Gini is told of the event by Joey, the hummingbird.

“Gini, this is bad news,” pleads Trua “I must do something. I cannot live my life with that wizard, nor have the love of my life killed for trying to save me. My heart will crush. What can we do Gini? You are a Genie; you are magic. How can we save ourselves and Candue?”

Trua’s emotion moves Gini. She is also sick of Lasko taking advantage of her, past her three-wish quota. Gini thinks for a while, colourful Gini smoke exuding from her head and then whispers something to Trua.

The next morning Trua tells Lasko she wants to see him.

“Get the girl cleaned up and dressed in the long golden gown and then bring her in front of me,” Lasko barks to his servant.

“Trua may now realize what a catch I am,” Lasko smugly tells himself, as he grooms his collar in front of an ornate mirror. “She is as pure as a unicorn, and I cannot wait to change that,” he chuckles to himself. “Hmm, if she is coming around, I think I want more wishes from that miserly Genie, I want Trua to adore me, to be in love, so I can control every thought and action she has.”

Lasko goes to find Genie and demands, “Make Trua love me. Make her wobbly with love. I want her to do anything I ask and to have complete control of her mind and heart and do it now.”

Gini says, “I cannot make her love you.”

“Getting a little moody Genie?” Lasko questions? “Just do it; you are still under my command.” Gini nods, slightly.

Gini makes the wish for Lasko, but Genies cannot make someone fall in love. The corrupt wish quickly backfires on Lasko and breaks the contract that held Gini in his service.

Gini, now free from his possession gains her powers back and orbs the black wizard into the cage, where Trua previously was imprisoned.

The Black Wizard says, “Curse you all. You do not know my power.”

His curse ricochets, as it is up against Genie magic and the power of Trua and Candue’s true love.

Lasko is melted by his wish, and he turns to slush.

Trua and Candue reunite.

“My girl this outcome is amazing,” says Candue with love in his eyes. “Thank-you Gini, and Trua for rescuing me! Will you marry me Trua?”

“Of course, my love,” responds Trua.

“You are free from this darkness, now too,” says Trua to Gini with excitement.

“Yes” replies Gini “but I am still a Genie. You know what that means for you, Trua. Rub my lantern three times, and you will be the next recipient of my wishes. I want you to have them as a wedding present.”

Trua feels a bit strange about being granted wishes by Gini but understands she is a Genie and Trua does have many dreams for her life. She knows Gini will grant her wishes with love. She finds and rubs Gini’s beautiful lantern.

“What are your three wishes?” inquires Gini.

“Wish number one is for our love to last as long as we do,” says Trua.

“So, it shall be,” says Gini.

“My second wish is for happiness, as much as we can handle,” says Trua.

“So, it shall be,” smiles Gini.

“My third wish is for you to be forever free, Gini,” says Trua.

Gini says, “this is my dream Trua, and you are the wish maker who made it happen for me. I am forever grateful.”

“As am I to you, Gini,” says Trua.

Gini throws off her bracelets of servitude. “I vow to now live forever free and to use my breath, my life and my magic in the way I choose.”

A year later, Trua, Gini and Candue open a Genie school, named Lumera for people who want to learn the magic of self-awareness and choice.

Gini is an instructor who shows students how to claim their independence and inner authority. She teaches that granting wishes is accessible to those who learn to make good choices and take responsibility for their actions.

Trua teaches about love, flowers and healing.

Candue administrates and helps keep dreams alive.

The students are educated about self- knowledge and given access to a lifetime of personal choice and the freedom that comes with taking responsibility.

And they all lived with purpose, love, and endless wishes, happily ever after!
